Experts Opinion: 18K Gold massive purpose made pair case, silver original throughout, Earnshaw’s chronometers had the same plates and balances as these two timepieces. It would seem these were experimental duplex escapements used in the chronometer movements put together by the master himself. When examining these at close range you can understand the major desire for this man’s work! Thomas Earnshaw was awarded 2,000 pounds for his attempt at a chronometer for sailing purposes. We have never owned an original Earnshaw before these two gems.
